The famous Pamir Highway, 701 km long, connects Tajikistan with Kyrgyzstan, is the highest mountain route in the territory of the former USSR and is one of the five most beautiful roads in the world according to National Geographic. Asphalt and civilization are abstract concepts in those places, so a jeep is the best way to get around.

During the tour you will drive along the highest automobile pass in the CIS - Akbaital, whose height is 4655m, see the harsh beauty of the Pamir Mountains, and also get acquainted with how people live on the “roof of the world”.

Our route runs through the Wakhand corridor, which is a green oasis in the middle of inaccessible rocks. There, on the other side of the Panj River, you can see how people live in Afghanistan. Small settlements are clearly visible, and people there still wash clothes in the icy river.

The tour can be carried out either from west to east (from Dushanbe to Osh) or from east to west (from Osh to Dushanbe), however we would recommend the second option (from Osh to Dushanbe) due to more favorable conditions for acclimatization to the highlands , and also in view of the fact that asphalt and civilization are improving towards Dushanbe, and not vice versa. It is also possible to complete/start the program in Samarkand (Uzbekistan) if Tajikistan is considered as part of a larger trip.

Note: the “roof of the world” carries a number of dangers and is only suitable for experienced travelers. We completely take on the dangers of bad roads and car breakdowns. However, the trip is contraindicated for hypertensive patients, because at the height of the Pamir Highway the atmospheric pressure drops, and oxygen is almost two times less than at sea level. Also, the trip is not suitable for people who are used to staying only in luxury hotels. There are no such houses in the Pamirs, there are only guest houses, and not always with a private bathroom.

1 day:

Osh city – Lenin Peak base camp (Onion field) – Sarytash village (overnight in a guest house)

Day 2:

Sarytash village – border crossing – Kyzyl-Art pass (4280m) – Karakul Lake – Karakul village (overnight in a guest house)

Day 3:

Karakul village – Ak-Baital pass (4655m) – Murgab village – meteorite crater – petroglyphs – Marco Polo sheep – Murgab village (overnight at the hotel)

Day 4:

Murghab village – Fatima hot springs – Afghan village – Khorog city (overnight in a guest house)

Day 5:

Khorog city – Nurek reservoir – Dushanbe city (overnight at a hotel)

Day 6:

Dushanbe city – Iskanderkul lake – Artuch mountaineering camp (overnight in the mountaineering camp)

Day 7:

Artuch – Marguzor Lakes – ancient settlement of Sarazm – city of Pejikent (overnight at a hotel)

Day 8:

On the eighth day, we can either return to Dushanbe or continue to the Uzbek city of Samarkand, where you can start your tour of Uzbekistan

2. Individual medicines and personal hygiene items. All our jeeps are equipped with medical first aid kits, but only you know what and in what quantity is right for you.

3.Clothes and personal hygiene items. We always recommend that you take care, first of all, of comfortable shoes and sun protection (hat, sunscreen). Depending on the season, you will need a raincoat, windbreaker or warm jacket.
