About 300 kilometers from the city of Almaty is a favorite vacation spot for Kazakhstanis - Chundzha hot springs. There are about 150 hot springs in the area. It has been scientifically confirmed that there used to be an active volcano near the city of Almaty (the volcanic mountains Toraigyr and Boguty are its traces). The volcano died out more than 200 million years ago, but the magma channels remained open, they heat the water, which then breaks out to the surface under enormous pressure.
